Norfolk Island Getaways
Overview
Norfolk Island is a remote Australian territory set in the South Pacific Ocean, about halfway between New Zealand and New Caledonia. Despite its small size—just 8 by 5 kilometres—it offers a remarkable diversity of landscapes, from rugged coastal cliffs and pristine beaches to rolling pastures and subtropical forests. The island is steeped in history, best known for its time as a British penal settlement and later as the new home of the descendants of the HMS Bounty mutineers from Pitcairn Island. Today, Norfolk Island blends its historic legacy with a relaxed, village-like atmosphere and strong community spirit. Visitors can explore the UNESCO World Heritage–listed Kingston and Arthur’s Vale Historic Area, enjoy outdoor activities like hiking, snorkelling, and birdwatching, and savour local produce and crafts. With its mild climate, rich heritage, and stunning scenery, Norfolk Island offers a peaceful and culturally vibrant island experience unlike anywhere else in the Pacific.
